Abstract

Technological advancements and its effect on the current labor workforce have come to be the center of attention mostly in the Western countries. The different innovations entail advanced industrial robots, communication systems, computer-assisted design (CAD), flexible systems of manufacturing and the computer-assisted manufacturing (CAM). Modern technologies like these incorporate low-cost and powerful microelectronic devices which possess a potential to multiply the factory and office productivity when it comes to accomplishing the production tasks. Furthermore, they share a widespread appeal hence they are quickly becoming absorbed throughout the globe. However, there have been conflicting views with regards to the implications of the advancements in technology for the employment sector. Moreover, various experts believe that the pace of the technological change has significantly accelerated leading to a negative effect on the factory and office workers due to the laborsaving innovations that have been embraced by industries. The experts agree that the current innovations represent the sharp departure from the earlier changes hence techniques that can maintain job security should be embraced. Examining the impact that technology has is a difficult process. Nonetheless, technological changes usually interact or are influenced by the output changes, international competition, consumption patterns as well as other related factors. Therefore, the link between employment and changing technology is not significantly clear. This research will examine how technology can alter the scope of manual jobs in future. It will present the outcome of the labor market’s quantitative modeling evolution and qualitative insights attained from discussions with several experts. After the application of the findings, recommendations will be given to business and government leaders on how they could foster technological changes and increase growth and productivity of the manual workers or the industrial workforce.
