The Great Gatsby is the novel written by the American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 and became a well-known part of the literature of the jazz age. The novel is considered to be one of the greatest examples of the literature which describes the life of the American people in the first part of the 20th century and the well-known concept of the American dream which illustrates the ideal life of the Americans, their material and moral values at that time. The plot of the novel describes the life of the USA in the 1920-ies, when the economics of the country developed extremely fast after the World War 1.

The main characters are Nick Carraway (from his person the narration is kept) and Jay Gatsby, the representative of the richest class of the country, who has collected enough money to live perfectly well. Fitzgerald describes the life of Jay Gatsby who being extremely rich is unhappy, because the life of his life loves another man. The author is disappointed with the way of life of the Americans, their materialism and lack of moral values, because all the people around Gatsby communicate with him only because of his wealth.
