Analysis of the Options – Term Paper

Option 1: Contacting the suppliers

Suppliers play an integral role in delivering the materials required during the project. At the same time, it is supposed that they be time conscious to avoid the wastage of time.  The preferred option was to contact the suppliers as early as possible to make sure they are aware of what should be delivered.

The methodology I used to reach the option was observation.   Surveying was the methodology that I used in this case. I first started moving around and observing the progress of other building was progressing.  I analyzed how the project manager conducted the activities, compared with my strategies. From this study, I realized that contacting the suppliers in advance made it easy and the activities were effectively conducted.

The analysis also indicated that using this approach was efficient in allocating the material suppliers the respective roles.   The fact that accuracy efficiency and quality was among my objectives, the results of this study indicated that having prior delivery of resources facilitated the flow of the project and this is the reason I chose the option. These results were positive, and this is the reason I never rejected the option.

According to the results of the survey, enlightening the suppliers early is the best step for the project to achieve the intended goal.  Using this information, I will explain to the client why we should use the option, and the role it will play in achieving the ultimate goal of the project.

Option 2:  Contacting the engineers who were to be on the ground as early as possible to minimize the cases of lateness.

There were instances when the engineers came late to the site creating inconveniences in the progress of the project. At the same time, there were cases when an engineer was not aware that it was their day to be on duty to guide the progress of the project. This was the reason I focused on informing them early enough so that they could be at the site within the expected period. The approach was the best as I managed to complete everything within the expected time.  The reason I chose the approach was to avoid the instances of lateness that could jeopardize with the deadline of the project.

The methodology I used to reach the option was observation.   Surveying was the methodology that I used in this case. I first started moving around and observing the progress of other building was progressing.  I analyzed how the project manager conducted their activities, compared with my strategies. From this study, I realized that contacting the engineers in advance made it easy and the activities were easily conducted.  Also, it is critical for the workers to have a precise plan of working from the engineers so that they can avoid errors that may lead to lateness.

To the client, I will explain to him why implementing this strategy is important in attaining the goals of the project. It is a requirement for the client to understand why a certain option was chosen and why is it important to the project.

Option 3: Determining the cost of materials to be delivered and analyzing it in line with the cost that was set by the client.

Before starting any project, establishing an effective budget is the aim of every project manager. This is the reason it is necessary for the site manager to make sure the delivered materials are within the quoted prices.  Thus, determining the cost of materials was the best option in determining the cost of materials before the construction process. It was helpful in making sure the budget of the project remained within the projected cost, and this could also limit the cases of under budgeting or over budgeting that may affect the ultimate cost of the project.

The options were quite advantageous for the project, and this is the reason I advised the client to follow the same strategy if the aim of the project was to be completed within the set deadline. After the analysis, I believe this was the best approach that could be used in attaining the outcome of the project. The method I had used before choosing options was observation. After completing this, I was able to come up with the best solution to deal with the challenges that were facing the success of the project.

3. My Achievements

The process of construction is a complicated array, but with the right guide, objectives and strategy both can be accomplished. In my case, acting as a site manager was not an easy role, but being focused on what I wanted to attain, I managed to provide the effective results that helped the project manager to complete the objectives. My achievements were critical as I managed to control the workforce by making sure they met the deadline of the project, and all the purported aims were achieved. Additionally, I was also charged with maintaining the cost of the materials as per the initial budget which was important in maintaining the cost of the project, as well. Time and quality of work were critical in this project and I am happy that at the end the project produced quality work matching all the requirements of the stakeholders. Additionally, despite the delays in some cases, the deadline for the project did not elapse. Further, the employees were also able to understand the importance of time management aspect in the performance of the outcome of the project. All these factors in complex contributed to the successful fulfillment of the project.

Conclusion

Completing a project involves multiple options and strategies that must be in line to make sure everything is as expected.   For any project to be successful, it is important to make sure that all the personnel’s with specific roles are included. The roles range from analyzing the construction site, controlling the budget and controlling the progress of the project. This is all done to ensure that the objectives of the project manager, which are completing the project within the expected time and budget. However, it is not easy to attain these goals, but it is the role of the manager to make sure the expected options are implemented to eliminate these issues.  There are numerous challenges a construction manager has to face. Some are new to the industry, and some are centuries old. Many of these challenges are a direct result of building operations, while others are a result of indirect, peripheral activities. The most important thing for the construction process to become a success is to make sure that everything is done in line with the objectives of the project. In addition, it is crucial for the individuals who are in charge of the project to make sure that every responsibility is well played. Budget is also an important part of any project, and it is, therefore, important for the site manager to make sure the project sticks to the initial budget and there are no extra costs in the process.

The most important thing I learned during the project is that pre-arrangement is an important aspect for the success of any project. Therefore, before the onset of any project, it is essential to make sure everything is in place, everyone has the required information, and this is likely to diminish the occurrence of errors in the project. It is also important to work with the deadline so that the project is completed within the required time. All in all, this was an appealing experience, the project gained success, and I will not hesitate to take part in a similar project next time I get an opportunity.

The competencies that I developed are handling people from different phenomena. I also learned about the new methods that I will use to complete my work in the future, and this is the reason many appreciated my work.
